The NEC is the only one of the three big halls where you genuinely have to ask which kind of show you are staffing, because the answer changes who you want on the stand.
Trade buying shows want product-literate hosts who can hold a range conversation and treat an order sheet as the point of the day. Long consumer runs want stamina and warmth: demonstrators, samplers, people who can still lift the energy at four o'clock on a Saturday. Staffing both the same way is the most common mistake we are asked to fix.
The trade shows open the season
Autumn Fair runs 6–9 September and Glee 8–10 September. In 2026 the two formally co-locate, sharing 8–9 September with cross-access between them, which puts giftware, home and garden buyers on site together. If you are exhibiting at one, the overlap days are the ones to staff properly.
Advanced Engineering on 4–5 November is the serious technical show, co-located with UK Metals Expo. UK Construction Week spans the month end, 29 September to 1 October — the only show in the autumn calendar that does.
The long consumer runs
The Motorhome and Caravan Show is six days, 13–18 October, and the longest run at the venue. Horse of the Year Show is five, 7–11 October. Festive Gift Fair takes four days in November.
Anything past three days needs a rota from the outset. Six days of public footfall is not the same job as two days of trade appointments, and the same four people on day six are not the team you booked on day one.
Birmingham means planning the travel
This is the practical difference between the NEC and the London venues. A team either comes from the Midlands or needs accommodation, and that decision is materially cheaper made early — particularly for the multi-day consumer shows, and particularly in the first week of November when the NEC has three shows open at once.

Demonstrators and samplers

Built in from day one on the five- and six-day runs, with a team lead handling the rota so you are not managing replacements from the stand.
Midlands-based staff
Where the brief allows, we staff NEC work locally. It removes the accommodation line from the budget and the travel risk from an early call time.

Common Questions
Do NEC staff come from Birmingham or travel from London?
Both, depending on the brief. Where we can staff a NEC booking locally we will, because it takes accommodation out of the budget and removes the travel risk from an early call time. For briefs with a specific language or look requirement we may need to bring people in, and we will tell you that up front rather than after you have signed off.
How is staffing a trade show different from a consumer show at the NEC?
Substantially. A trade buying show wants hosts who can hold a product conversation with a buyer and recognise a real order opportunity. A consumer run wants stamina, warmth and the ability to stop someone walking past — demonstrators and samplers rather than appointment handlers. We brief the two completely differently.
What is the busiest period at the NEC this autumn?

Can you staff a six-day show like the Motorhome and Caravan Show?
