Olympia's autumn programme leans towards interiors, gifting, luxury travel and premium consumer. The audiences are smaller than at ExCeL or the NEC and they are browsing with more attention, which changes what a stand team is for.
At a premium show the visitor reads the people on the stand as part of the brand. That favours brand ambassadors briefed properly on the product and the tone over general event crew who happen to be available. It is the one venue where we would push back on a client trying to solve a stand with headcount alone.
The shows worth planning around
Spirit of Christmas Fair runs 2–8 November and is the longest show of the entire UK autumn at seven days. It is also the clearest case for a rota anywhere in the calendar: seven consecutive days of retail footfall, with the last day expected to look like the first.
Decorex International takes 11–14 October and Top Drawer A/W 13–15 September, bringing the interiors and gift trades through. The Luxury Travel Fair follows Spirit of Christmas on 5–8 November, and the Independent Hotel Show covers the top end of hospitality on 5–6 October.
The season opens with the PLASA Show on 6–8 September, which is a different animal — entertainment technology, a trade audience, and a stand job closer to ExCeL than to the rest of Olympia's programme.
A gentler calendar
Olympia never has more than two shows open at once this autumn, which makes it the easiest of the three venues to staff late. The exception is the first week of November, when Spirit of Christmas and The Luxury Travel Fair overlap on 5–8 November and the rest of the country is at its busiest.
